Simple Tile Pipe Sizing Calculator
Agriculture Tile Drainage Pipe Sizing Calculator
Tile Sizing Calculator
π Use the Tile Sizing Calculator to estimate the optimal tile size for your mainline. Follow these steps:
- π Measure the Drainage Area:
- In Geo-Surface Designer, use the measuring tool to accurately determine the area being drained.
- Enter this value into the first input box.
- π Enter the Average Grade:
-
- Locate the info box for your main tile line (the line leading to the outlet) to find the average grade.
- Input this grade value into the second input box.
βοΈ How It Works:
Based on the area and average grade provided, the calculator will generate several suggested tile sizes to achieve your desired drainage coefficient (DC).
π οΈ Best Practice Guidelines:
- πΎ Pattern Tile Installations:
For most soils, a typical DC for pattern tile ranges between 1/4″ and 1/2″. - π Targeted Tile Installations:
- When installing targeted tile (e.g., running a tile through depressional areas), consider selecting a higher DC or adjust by increasing the drainage area value to account for additional contributing acres.
- For systems combining areas of pattern tile with targeted tile (all feeding into a mainline), measure both the pattern tiled area and a portion of the surrounding areas draining into the depressional zones. Use this combined area to compute a realistic estimate of the total acres being drained, and then select the highest DC permissible for licensing your system.
β οΈ Important Disclaimer:
πΉ Many regions impose maximum allowable drainage coefficients (DC) for licensing purposes. The concept of measuring contributing areas and selecting a higher DC may not be approved in every jurisdiction.
